Since last friday Sean has been spitting up quite a bit. Looks like we've got a little (well, actually a lot) reflux (baby GERD). I'm trying to feed him smaller meals more frequently and keep him propped up to minimize the messes. I am loathe to take him anywhere now because he spits up all over himself, me , the carseat, the floor in Macy's, etc.
Our pediatrician said that medications can be used if he seems uncomfortable. But the medications only decrease the acid in his stomach which is not the reason he spits up (immature sphincter between his esophagus and stomach). He does cry sometimes but mostly he smiles and laughs after he has spit up. Has anyone had this experience before and if you tried medications, did they work for your baby?
Well, last night was the first night that we started to put Sean to sleep in his crib. Yes, he's been sleeping with us this whole time. (gasp!) It went better than expected, but we still have a few more nights to make this a habit.
Sean had his two-month check-up today. He's in the 50th percentile for height and weight at 22.75 inches and 11 pounds 10.6 ounces. Of course the highlight of the doctor's visit was the vaccinations.
He calmed down quickly afterwards and is still friends with the nurse.
During the day, I play classical music for Sean. Today while I was nursing we heard Pachelbel's Canon in D. I started thinking about Sean's wedding someday in the future and getting teary-eyed thinking about Matthew and me holding hands in the front pew. Said a prayer for his future wife. She's probably not even born yet.
My brother Michael came down to Houston this weekend to visit his favorite (and only) nephew. Torturing Sean already. Just kidding - Sean just woke up from his nap. Starting babysitter training.
The day before Sean was born, I ordered his crib set and friday it finally arrived! Well, we got it all cleaned up and here is Sean enjoying his crib. Love that smirk!
Sean used to hate having his diaper changed and he cried the whole time. But that might have also been due to his diaper rash. Now I guess he's getting used to it and even "talks" to us sometimes.
I've been telling everybody that being a mother is the hardest thing I've ever done thus far. Sleep deprivation, sore nipples, anxiety about doing something wrong coupled with being tired. I'm tired of wearing Matthew's shorts and t-shirts, not getting to drink anything fun, the perpetual disarray of our apartment, sleeping only two hours at a time... Of course, nursing is difficult too because I'm the only one who can feed Sean (every 2-3 hours), but I love how close we are and how he snuggles up next to me. I love how people come up to see him (and tell me how cute he is) when I'm out with Sean in my baby sling. And I get to spend my days (and nights) with this little guy...
So this morning I picked up a frappuccino from "Barstucks" before I ran some errands with Sean. Well, I drank about 2/3 of it and Sean suffered the consequences. (I'm so sorry, Sean!) He couldn't nap for more than about 20 minutes at a time. He was really fussy and didn't fall asleep until about 10pm when Matthew had him in his baby sling. I couldn't figure out what it was until I thought about what I had eaten and drank today. I guess between the caffeine and sugar, it was too much for him!
Today was Matthew's birthday. No big hoopla since I didn't get to cook or bake anything. We just ate chinese takeout and a slice of chocolate cake with ice cream. (Can't have a birthday without cake and ice cream!)
