Learned Something New Today at Work
[Ring, ring.]
RPh: Hi, thank you for calling ___________ Pharmacy. How may I help you?
Caller: Do you take __________?
RPh: Yes, just bring your card with your prescription.
Caller: You got Xanax, Handlebars, and Codeine syrup?
RPh: Xanax what?
Caller: Handlebars.
RPh: Handlebars? What is that?
Caller: Handlebars. I mean, Xanax.
RPh: What strength of Xanax?
Caller: I dunno. I have to check my prescription. It's a white tablet.
RPh: Hmmm. No, I don't have any in stock.
Caller: What about codeine syrup?
RPh: What kind of codeine syrup?
Caller: Promethazine with codeine syrup.
RPh: How much do you need?
Caller: Eight.
RPh: I don't have that either.
[Click.]
It actually took me a little while to figure out that "Handlebars" was the slang term for Xanax. We learned a few slang terms for drugs in school, but that was for illegal drugs. I'm very thankful I work in a pharmacy inside a store and with a security officer. I don't know what it was about today, but I had another person call me three times to try to get her fake prescriptions. All before noon!

Let Them Eat Pizza
Tonight, Sean had his first taste of pizza. Well, the crust at least. I picked up some pizza after work and when Sean saw us eating it, he wanted to eat some too. So I gave him a little of my crust. He had seconds and was so happy. I think he likes eating real food better than baby food.

Shoulda-Coulda-Woulda, But Didn't
Back in December when we were shopping for my new cell phone, we met a couple. They were new parents too and told us their four-month-old baby girl was having trouble gaining weight, but she slept through the night at six weeks (9pm - 6am). They were asking what they could do to help her gain weight. I honestly didn't know what to tell them since I assumed that the mother was breastfeeding on-demand like I was. In the end, the father mentioned that they were "doing Babywise." Now, I've never read any books by Gary Ezzo because he's not a medical professional and has no training in lactation or child development. Plus, I read some reviewers on Amazon mention that the Ezzo program has been linked to failure-to-thrive and breastfeeding failure in mothers.
However, I've recently found this website www.ezzo.info, and it has parents' stories (click here) of what following the Ezzo program did for their families. These stories are heart-wrenching!!! I cried for that little baby girl and for all the babies who have been and are being hurt, from failure-to-thrive to Reactive Attachment Disorder and everything in between. I looked at my little Sean and could not imagine flicking his cheek to keep him facing the dinner table or slapping his hands to keep him from reaching for the spoon. (What the...?!?!?!)
Today I told Sean, "Mommy loves you," more often and kissed him more often and hugged him tighter. I prayed for those parents and their baby girl and hoped that they were doing better. I didn't put two and two together at the time, but I also didn't know what to say. I wish I had said something though...

The Children's Museum
A friend told me about The Children's Museum. They have an infant/toddler room with lots of toys and things to play with but safe for infants and toddlers. Since Sean loves to crawl everywhere now, I figured he could enjoy it and work off some of his energy.
So much to see!
Sean liked the little black screws that held the mirrors in place rather than the mirrors themselves.

I had to work very hard to keep all those toys out of Sean's mouth. Thankfully, the museum has a "clean toys" bag and a "dirty toys" bag. So after a baby slobbers all over a toy you can put it in the dirty bag and the staff will clean them.

When we go to CM, Sean always watches the other kids that get balloons. But I had read (I can't remember if it was our baby book or one of the parenting magazines I get) that balloons are dangerous when babies are at the stage where they put everything in their mouths. However, mylar balloons are okay (I guess since they're stronger and don't pop). I love to see Sean exploring new things, so I had to let him play with my balloon.
Thank you to Matthew for the balloon & flowers! And for helping me finish the chocolates! ;)
