We introduced Sean to his toothbrush tonight, and he really liked it. It kept him occupied during his entire bath and he didn't even touch any of his bath toys.
Now that Sean's healthy again, we had to go back to the pediatrician for the sixth-month checkup and vaccinations that we missed when he got sick with RSV. Sean's height and weight were pretty much the same as a couple of weeks ago, except that he "lost" about 0.5 pound. This was probably due to the fact that last time we weighed Sean with clothes and today he only had a diaper when he went on the scale. Sean did great with the shots and calmed down very quickly after he started crying. I had brought a lot of toys to distract him.
The doc told me that Sean's doing very well developmentally and I had to fight the proud momma urge to say, "Well, of course! He's a smart baby!" ;)
Well, for Sean's eighth month birthday, we were pretty busy. We went to a local library where they have "Laptime" for infants. There were some toddlers there as well. Sean was fascinated by all the other babies because he has never seen so many in one place before. Not too interested in the nursery rhymes from the librarian. There was playtime after laptime, and Sean liked this toy. Sean also wanted to touch the other babies, but I had to keep him from poking another infant's eye.
Today, Matthew and I were getting ready while Sean was playing in his crib. After a while Sean started crying, which usually happens when Sean doesn't see us after a while. But when we went to the crib, Sean was stuck. He had grabbed the rail and tried to pull himself up to standing. However only one leg was standing and he was kinda stuck in that position. Poor baby! He wants to do so many things that he's not quite ready for yet.
We went to our favorite dim sum place for lunch and saw my friend Kieu. (Hi, Kieu!) She said that she didn't even recognize us at first, but she recognized Sean from following our blog. It's okay. I think Matthew and I are getting used to it.
Sean has learned to make these funny faces lately. He wrinkles up his nose and breathes rapidly like he smelled something he didn't like. Actually, he did this at the pediatrician's office and the nurse said, "Sean, we all took a shower today. Stop saying we're smelly." His wrinkled nose face makes Grandma laugh so hard and of course, Sean has to do it again...
If you zoom in on the top picture, you can see one of Sean's three new teeth.
Yes, I have succumbed to the flu too. I haven't felt this miserable in a long time. I went to see the doctor today and all I got was some cough syrup since I'm nursing. The resident did suggest that I wear a mask while nursing. The very thought of that made me laugh since Sean would probably just stare at me and think, "What happened to Mommy's face?"
Matthew wants a refund for our flu shots. Where do we get in line?
Last night/early this morning Sean woke up with a fever. Although he is teething, Matthew is also sick, so I took him to see his pediatrician. They tested Sean and found that he has the flu. So now it's naps and nursing and fever medicine. Hopefully Sean will be better by next week. Some good news: when Sean was crying, I noticed that he's getting both of his bottom incisors as well as once of the top ones. Good-bye naked gums!
As for height and weight, Sean is 27 1/2 inches tall and weighs 20 pounds 4.4 ounces. (And I thought for sure he was getting heavier...)
Today Sean had real bananas in this little food holder. Since he's getting his teeth in, I figured he should start using them. He really enjoyed it and even wanted seconds!
For about a week after Christmas, Sean was sleeping through the night. One morning I looked at the clock and it was 6:30am. We were so happy! For the past few nights though, he has started waking up again. We were trying to figure out what we were doing wrong. Well, today we found out why... Sean's getting his first tooth!
