Kids, that is. That's been my constant thought today. After our first twenty-four hours at home, we've been learning how to juggle the needs of both Sean and Jack together. Thank goodness for grandparents! And a lot of coordination too. Our first night was pretty tough since Jack got so hungry even after I'd fed him. So for sanity's sake, we decided to supplement with formula until my milk comes in.
Otherwise, we are doing a lot better than expected. Just trying to take it one day at a time.

How Debonair!

Hello, Jack Donovan!

So starting in the wee hours of thursday morning, Sean had some sort of a stomach bug. After I got off work friday afternoon, I started having symptoms as well and by midnight, I was dehydrated enough to really increase the intensity and frequency of my contractions. (Later, my ob/gyn said that those same symptoms can be signs of labor, so perhaps I was just laboring? I would have rather been induced instead...) So we made our way to the hospital at 4 am, and it turned out that I was 4cm dilated and 80% effaced. Got my epidural started and at 1pm I started pushing. At 2:07pm, he finally popped out, weighing 8 pounds, 6 ounces! Already round in the cheeks and belly.
Just got home today and here are some photos of Jack that were taken while we were in the hospital.

An Impromptu Baby Shower

Thanks to my friends who got together for dinner and to give me some gifts for Jack. It was a little difficult to get everybody together on such short notice and before I get induced on saturday. Plus, my friend Theresa is due in a couple of weeks herself. Our firstborns are 10 days apart and our secondborns maybe as well.

Light at the End of the Tunnel
Some good news: Baby "dropped" a day or two ago, which gives me a pronounced waddle & some back pain. But at least it's progress! Also I will be induced on saturday (20th) if he doesn't arrive by then. The finish line is inching closer! Just trying to remind myself to enjoy the relative quiet of a one-child home...

False Alarm
Yesterday, I worked a 12-hour shift, and on my way home I started having contractions about 8-12 minutes apart for a few hours. After a lot of debate, we made our way to the hospital to get everything checked out. I was not dilated so we just stayed a few hours for observation and then went home. Just trying to remain patient...

Bummer!
At my doctor's visit today, I was not dilated so it looks like another week of being pregnant. I found out at last week's appointment that they estimate Baby #2 is in the 83rd percentile for gestational age (according to the ultrasound). BTW, the margin of error is +/- 0.5 pound. Yikes! I guess he has more of Matthew's genes than Sean. I've been having contractions for over a week now, but not close enough to call my doctor or go to the hospital. So we are just waiting... And still trying to decide on a name.
